Sri Lanka 2007

My dad was working for UNDP to improve aviation safey for some Asian countries. It was a very good visit with my parents in Colombo. Also met my Sri Lankan friend from US who was also visiting home.

Before & After!

My banker uncle suggested I should use the before and after images for modeling for diet adds!

Near Calgary, AB June 2009.

Near Nurelia, Sri Lanka January, 2007 with Ami.

Sleepless in Calgary!

I have moved from Karachi, Pakistan to Angola, IN (Nov 92) to Syracuse, IN (Mar 98) to Johnson City, TN (Feb 03) to Toronto, ON (Jun 07) to Calgary, AB (Jan 08), different countries, cities, jobs, switched industries, had loved ones pass away but after a short adjustment time and most of the time not even that, I have always returned to sleeping like a log for 8-9 hours a night. At least for more than three decades that was the case. In the last few months, for some reason, I have been waking up in the middle of the night and then just tossing and turning. Very unusual for me. So I have been reading books. One is The Night's Dawn Trilogy, by Peter F. Hamilton. It's set in AD 2600, with hundreds of colonized planets scattered across the galaxy. The other Robert Ludulum's spy novels. They are mostly set in the cold war era. And travel magazines, they help me learn about the immense diversity in the world but also the ultimate unity, the common threads that bind us all.

I have made some lifestyle changes recently for the better. My diet has never been this healthy. I have been lazy about practicing yoga in the last few weeks. I need to start that back up again. That will definitely help with the stress caused by what seems like a very very early mid life crisis :)

Strength Finder

I took the strengths Finder 2.0 assessment in July of 08 at work. I tried to take it again last week but apparently with one code you get only one try. All the assessments I take show that I'm more of an artist, thinker & teacher. My chosen profession of engineering is more data and facts driven. Sometimes this makes it interesting, as I, at times instinctively know the answer without doing the actual calculation!

My top 5 themes:

Ideation: You are able to find connections between seemingly disparate phenomena. You don't like adhering to a predetermined process, a tried-and-tested procedure or a traditional method. You enjoy spending time with possibility thinkers. You tune in to people and figure out what they are saying and thinking about you. You enjoy exploring the fascinating frontiers of medicine, politics, fashion, renewable energy sources, humanitarian aid, or the arts.

Learner: The process of learning, rather than the outcome, excites you. By nature you are comfortable offering suggestions to people who regularly seek your counsel. These individuals usually feel deep affection for you. You are likely to spend time together socializing as well as working or studying. These insights also allow you to understand why individuals behave the way they do in different situations.

Relator: Relator theme enjoy close relationships with others. They find deep satisfaction in working hard with friends to achieve a goal. Relators have quick and ready insights into the moods and emotions of individuals. This awareness amplifies your effectiveness as a trainer, or coach. Your sensitivity allows you to help people express what they are thinking and feeling. You have the ability to instruct, train or offer suggestion to people who look to you for assistance.

Individualization: People talented in the Individualization theme are intrigued with the unique qualities of each person. Bu nature, you sense that every person is one of a kind. You can quickly discover someone distinct from everyone else. Chances are good that you enjoy working and studying with people whose backgrounds, cultures, talents, or experiences are quite different from one another. Instinctively, you sometimes marvel at your ability to personally sense the feelings of other people and experience situations from their perspectives. Maybe your satisfaction comes from figuring out why someone behaves, feels, or thinks differently than you do.

Input:Input talented people have a craving to know more. You want to gather new ideas, discover new approaches, hear about new theories, consider new concepts, or apply new technologies. Often you are one of the early discoverers of innovation. You exhibit little need to know precisely where all this information ultimately will lead you. Instinctively, you continually seek wisdom from people with whom you have intelligent conversations. Your curiosity draws you to speculate-that is, reflect or wonder-about theories, ideas, or concepts. You frequently quiz individuals who are equally fascinated with the intangible and abstract aspects of life.
